Massive protest erupts in Kolkata’s Park Circus against Waqf Amendment Bill

Hundreds of people gathered in Kolkata’s Park Circus area today to protest against the Waqf Amendment Bill 2025, demanding its immediate withdrawal. Demonstrators claimed that the bill increases government control over Waqf properties and weakens the Waqf Board’s autonomy. Several social and religious organizations participated in the protest, carrying banners and placards while raising slogans against the proposed legislation. Protest leaders stated that the bill threatens the fundamental rights of Waqf institutions and could lead to government interference in community-owned assets.

Police deployed additional security forces in the area, and traffic disruptions were reported due to the large gathering. Protesters warned that if the bill is not revoked, the agitation will escalate in the coming days. Authorities monitored the situation to maintain law and order. No reports of violence or arrests emerged from the demonstration, which remained peaceful throughout.
